While in Manchester in the years 1969-70 David Glyn Williams was recognized as 'Best Vocalist'. Here are a few facts about him:

1. As a young boy, he used to yodel and play the guitar with the Gwndwn party, which is the name of his father and mother's party. His singing partner was his brother Elwyn, and the boys used to sing in the woods at the back of Maes Gwndwn, Talsarnau. Elwyn appeared on stage across Wales. He is an expert bird mimic, married and enjoys working with the youth of our country.

2. Glyn and Elwyn's voices were heard on the radio around the 50s in a program called 'Ser y Siroedd'.

3. Glyn realized in Manchester that people were willing to pay to hear him sing. It was possible to put Wales on the map!

4. He had the opportunity to work on stages with people like Lulu, and a group called 'Grumble Weeds'.

5. He was asked in a cabaret on a ship crossing from Australia if he was a full-time artist, but had to explain that he was one of the audience and was invited to take part for the evening!

6. Glyn's wife is a girl from Queensland, Australia. They were back there a few years before this. They have four children; Mark, who is 10 years old and follows his father as a singer, Susannah, Emma and Melony, who were born in Australia during the family's stay there.

7. At the moment, Glyn and the family live in Newtown.

8. Glyn Gwndwn is now a professional singer. He sings under the name Dave Curtis; Dave because his first name is David, and Curtis because he blew his mind watching the performance of Tony Curtis, the American actor, in the program 'The Persuaders'.

In 1976 he brought a long playing record on the market, that sells well. He also continues to sing in Welsh and even though he has been away for many years, Glyn speaks better Welsh than many Welsh people who stayed in Wales to earn their bread and cheese. He would, however, like Welsh song writers to remember him. As some of the local people said when they heard him sing, "Doesn't he sound good? He's got the voice".  No doubt the writers of Welsh pop will give him a boost. It is understood that a Welshman heard Glyn sing and started writing lyrics for him. What about you? Will there be a line or two, for Dave Curtis' sake? He deserves all the support. It's an tiring and difficult journey to get to the top. Remember to keep supporting, and follow the progress of the youth from Y Gwndwn.  LLAIS ARDUDWY wishes him well in the world of professional singing. Still to the old Glyn!
