Talsarnau is a small village situated between the river Afon Dwyryd and the hills.
Y Rhinogydd is the groupof mountains to the south. The A496 runs through the
village from Harlech in the west to Maentwrog in the east. Originally, it is understood,
Talsarnau was a farm, where The Ship Aground pub standstoday. The village
developed after a tidal dyke was erected between Glanywern and the Briwet area
in 1810 - a seawall that protected the low lying land from the sea. The tidal dyke also
secured several hundred acres of good agricultural flat land. Later in 1867 a railway
was built along the banks and Pont Briwetthe ridge, was built to cross Afon Dwyryd.
